For Episode 10, my guest is Žiga Fajfar, the co-founder of FlowOut Studio, the Unlimited Webflow design & development subscription service.
The part of this interview that really stuck out to me was when Ziga talked about cashflow. I think a lot of webflow freelancers get in to freelancing because they want freedom to work on projects they want to work on, at a time that suits them. The problem is that in reality, you need to be good at the business side of freelancing to have that freedom - a constant stream of client work with decent budgets, and most freelancers don’t have that (certainly not at the start). They have feast or famine with good months and bad months.
Having a couple of retainer clients as a freelancer makes so much sense to ensure that your costs are covered even in the slow months. Getting consistent cash flow is what I need to focus on too so Ziga gave me the kick to reach out to companies to offer a retainer rate for my Webflow services! I hope you do to!
The 3 failures Ziga talks about in this interview are:
- Focussing on the general market or niching
- Pros and cons of fixed price projects
- Being too attached to individual projects and clients
