For Episode 14, my guest is Ben Celinski, a Webflow designer and developer based in Ireland. A few years ago, Ben was working as a lawyer in Poland and had no IT experience whatsoever. His path to where he is now was paved with many challenges, inspirations and wonderful people helping him move to UX, Webflow and Ireland which we will talk about.
The part of this episode that stood out most to me was when Ben talked about how to align expectations with the client. I’m not sure about you but I have had client projects become a drag because the client’s expectations of a website project are wildly different from reality. This includes visual expectations (ie. if you want the website to be playful, what does that look like to you) but also timeline expectations (ie. the project won’t be finished in a month if I don’t get feedback within 2 working days).
This is why Ben emphasises that it’s vital to set expectations at the start of a project to ensure both you, the client and any other stakeholders’s expectations are are aligned.
The three failures Ben talks about in this episode are:
1) Failing to ask himself what he wanted to do
2) Failing to understand the client’s perspective
3) Failing to understand that you can’t be good at everything
